Direct contact Is Now Dead – Google kills + command Feature

Not so far back you could find a business’ Google+ page simply by typing + in front of the name of the business. So if you typed “+mediasearchgroup” in Google, for example, it allowed Media Search Group’s Google + page appear on top of the search rankings. Click that and you would be at Media Search Group’s Google + page – an easy link between search & social.

In fact to enable Direct Connect, the connection between Search & Social, Google had to disable how the + feature had worked in search, so far.

Many do not in fact know that this Direct Connect feature has had an unceremonial death! There has been no official intimation from Google. All we have by way of acknowledgement is a quote from a Google spokesperson stating “That particular feature is not a focus for us moving forward.”

Perhaps the withdrawal of “focus” has to do with the low adoption rate of the feature or the fact that there were many other more popular ways to reach Google + pages.

What ever be the cause, what’s sad is that the “+” function had to die for a promotional feature that did not find enough takers.
